Gyro Burger - Regular and Vegan!

Who knew that you could make the delectable gyro at home.  And if you are a vegan, now you too can enjoy a gyro!  You will also discover the delicious goodness of making your own tzatziki sauce.  These are so easy.  You will need:

1 pound ground lamb, ground beef, 1 pkg of Gimme Lean veggie ground beef
6 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2/3 teaspoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1 dash hot pepper sauce
2/3 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 small container of Greek or vegan plain yogurt
1/2 cucumber, peeled and cut into chunks
1/2 package of Hidden Valley Ranch dip (or salt/pepper and lime juice for vegans)
Pita Pockets or Hamburger rolls

1.)  Heat up your outdoor or indoor grill to high spray with Pam.

2.)  In a medium bowl, combine the first 8 ingredients.  Then score the meat into four portions.  Shape into patties.  With your thumbs, make a small indentation in the center of each burger.  This prevents burgers from "puffing up".  For medium burgers, cook on the first side for six minutes.  Do not squish the burger down!  When you see it sweat, it's time to flip it and cook for another 4 minutes.  You are looking for an internal temperature of 160 degrees.

Tzatziki Sauce:
3.)  In either a blender, a food processor combine chunked cucumber, yogurt and 1/2 package of Hidden Valley Ranch (or salt/pepper and lime juice for vegan).  Pulse or blend until smooth.  Refrigerate any leftover sauce.

Serve your gyro burgers in either a pita pocket or on hamburger buns.  Serve with cut up tomatoes, onions, lettuce and the tzatziki sauce.

Remember to put out lots of napkins, they are gonna get messy with so much delicious sauce on them!
